Kibbutz Metzer is located in the north of the country, near the Arab city of Baqa al-Gharbiya.

For almost a decade now, the Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball team has been sponsored by SP Metzer – an acronym for “Super Pipe” – made by the super successful factory of Kibbutz Metzer. And alongside the successes of the industrial enterprise, the super impressive success of Metzer is the Zionist dream of settling the land of Israel, in the heart of an Arab population and near the border and the village of Meisser.

Visit Kibbutz Metzer

Since its founding in 1953 by young pioneers from Argentina and over the years Kibbutz Metzer has maintained friendly relations with the Arab neighbors, including meetings and joint activities. And even when the worst of all befell the kibbutz in a murderous attack in 2002, the community maintained exceptional internal resilience, gained support and a warm embrace from the Arab neighbors, and continued even more its desire for peace coexistence.

Today, many children from neighboring Arab villages and communities arrive daily in Kibbutz Metzer and are educated in almost all kibbutz educational frameworks, from kindergarten to 12th grade.

The kibbutz has quite a few initiatives that are definitely inviting to visit. The tattoo artist Moran’s studio is on Metzer, but you may have to wait a few months (at best) to get tattooed by this popular artist. Another artist is Ilan Amir’s jewelry design studio.

You can also come to Kibbutz Metzer for treatment at Marcelo Eidelman’s Chinese Medicine clinic.

By the way, the Metzerplas factory started out as a pillow factory (yes, pillows) called “Kermetz”. It’s not really clear how pillows turned into pipes, but apparently they just needed a comfortable pillow to lay their head on and dream. To dream of community alongside industrial success and perhaps also to dream, just a little, of coexistence in the Israeli society.
