Kibbutz Magen is located in the north-western Negev in southern Israel not far from the border with Gaza. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.

On October 7, 2023, a battle at Kibbutz Magen took place as part of a surprise attack on Israel. During the battle, terrorists belonging to the terrorist organization Hamas attacked Kibbutz Magen near the southern Gaza Strip, with the aim of massacring the residents of the kibbutz and kidnapping them to the Gaza Strip. The members of the kibbutz’s emergency squad fought with the terrorists and managed to stop them.

What’s the connection between this small kibbutz and the swimming pool at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics? In those Olympic games, for the first time in the history of the country, the Israeli 4×100 meters medley relay squad made the finals! Some would say that this historic achievement was determined not only by the talented swimmers, but also, just maybe, by the pool’s water temperature heated by “Magen Plastic” solar panels.

Today, the factory has changed its name to Magen Eco-Energy. There are many other interesting things in the kibbutz that’ll warm up your visit to Kibbutz Magen – such as the Steam Museum exhibiting the importance of the steam engine in the life of the old kibbutz.
