Kibbutz Kerem Shalom, located at the tri-border crossing between Egypt, Israel and the Gaza Strip, insists on staying on the map! In 1956, the kibbutz was established. In 1995 it disbanded. In 2001, the kibbutz was re-established in an innovative model of the 2000s that combines the preservation of the beautiful kibbutz life of yesteryear with a supervised vision of tomorrow. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.

On the morning of October 7, 2023, about 20 terrorists raided Kibbutz Kerem Shalom in an attempt to massacre and kidnap civilians, as part of a surprise attack on Israel. However, the members of the kibbutz’s standby unit along with 6 soldiers managed to fight them off and prevented the massacre. A combat helicopter that was called in attacked about 50 more terrorists who infiltrated the kibbutz and killed most of them. Two members of the standby squad were killed.

From the onset, the kibbutz suffered incessant gunfire and mortar attacks from Gaza. So what did they call their pub? The “Mortar” Pub (in Hebrew “Hapatzmar” pub), maybe because even on the hot border you can drink cold beer and rejoice.
