Kibbutz Alumim is located in the northwestern Negev desert in southern Israel, near the Gaza Strip. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.

In the surprise attack on Israel, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, 30 terrorists raided the kibbutz, but were repelled by the 16-resident standby squad who killed ten of the terrorists. They waged the battle alone from 6:30 in the morning until IDF forces arrived at noon. After failing to penetrate the residential area, about ten of the terrorists went to the dairy farm, murdered 23 foreign workers from Nepal and Thailand and kidnapped eight of them, burned the silo and the milking parlor and pierced the milk containers with bullets (The Kibbutz Alumim Massacre).

The economy of Alumim is based on agriculture and tourism. Alumim has maintained the classic kibbutz collective life style. Each member receives an allowance based on his or her needs (size of family, age of children etc.). The allowance is not connected to the occupation of the member. There are no monetary incentives for any form of work. Chores such as serving in the dining hall, guard duty at night, milking the cows at the weekend are done on a rota basis.

Kibbutz Alumim produces and sells carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes and other organic products as well as avocado, chickens, and peppers. The kibbutz guest house has 22 self-contained apartments.
